THE GARDEN AND THE ACADEMY

How long have you been without getting lost in the landscape of notes of a Beethoven symphony?

How long without enjoying the amazing conceptual world of a Dali painting?

How long without expectantly stroke the pages of a perfidious Shakespeare work?

How long without ...

Perhaps a lifetime?

Life, in life, in one of these multiple classifications that we like to do, there are two types of people. Two general classes I know both very well.

Are people who only live, surprisingly for me, do not want, hates! thinking, they are limited to work, get home, in their case care for their family, watching football, or anything they put on TV, and ignore anything that involves using the brain, "Do not get into Politics" or frivolously speak of it, that get entertained and amused with anything, and in their younger years only think about going out, dance, not worrying much about anything. Ants working with a clonal identity, which simply wait for death without any expectation of leaving a trace in their environment. I am familiar with this kind of life because I took it myself for years.

The alternative is the illusion, knowledge, scholarship, social unrest, apply logic to everything that you do, and thinking, thinking all day about everything, and being wrong. People that often ignore what real life is, what living on the street is, or the social reality around us, but people without whom there would be no David by Michelangelo, the Brandenburg Concertos, the Taj Mahal, the Sistine Chapel, or the Louvre. A world of ideas and creativity, they need to vent their concerns to in a fantasy world created by them. People that think, promote and fight for social change. I also know very well this kind of life because I lived it almost since birth.

Two opposite ways of understanding life, and were already faced 2300 years ago with the ataraxia of Epicurus and Plato's Metaphysics. The Garden and the Academy. Two positions on the bottom, just can't exist without the other.

So which way to go, how to live life ...

I do not know, both exceedingly disappointed me, and often I THINK it's not worth living. But I'll choose to be patient and wait for people around the world to wake up from their lethargic sleep, (I'd settle for one person!) And suddenly worth go out with a smile.
